Is Delta 8 the Same as CBD?

Delta 8 or delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol is a form of THC. CBD is cannabidiol. Both THC and CBD are found in cannabis plants and industrial hemp. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are among the more than hundred cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. Now, let’s get to the question of whether Delta 8 is the same as CBD. The simple answer is no. But, there are similarities.

Delta 8 vs. CBD

CBD is found in both cannabis or marijuana and industrial hemp. The quantum of CBD present in marijuana or cannabis exceeds its proportion in hemp. The same is true for THC. In contrast, Delta 8 is found in nominal quantities in both cannabis plants and industrial hemp. While CBD and THC are quite abundant in cannabis extracts, the Delta 8 substance has to be nurtured, processed, refined, and basically produced with more effort and intervention.

Neither cannabis plants nor industrial hemp contain a lot of Delta 8 THC. The chemical compound is not as easily synthesized in a natural manner as Delta 9 THC, which is what most people refer to while using the term tetrahydrocannabinol. Hence, in the context of natural availability, CBD outscores Delta 8 by a huge margin.

Effects of Delta 8 and CBD

CBD can facilitate a sense of high, but not to the extent THC can. This THC is delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol. It should not be confused with Delta 8. The ability of Delta 8 to facilitate the sense of high is substantially less than that of Delta 9. Chemically, Delta 8 is just about half as potent as Delta 9. Experientially, the effects are not that different. On a scale of comparison, Delta 9 THC is the most potent, followed by CBD and Delta 8. The latter distinction depends largely on concentration.

The most important difference between Delta 8 and CBD, other than their chemical compositions, is the psychoactive property. CBD is not psychoactive. Delta 8 is. CBD does not cause any changes in the perception of reality, surroundings, or other cognitive experiences. Delta 8 does have some effect on the mind, but not as much as Delta 9 THC. Delta 8 effects are more bodily than cognitive. Users do not report experiencing loss of focus, memory, or ability to think coherently. This is primarily due to the less potency of Delta 8, which also makes it a far safer form of THC than Delta 9.

The common effects of Delta 8 are a tinge of euphoria, calmness, relaxation, and a feeling of delight. The most widely cited effects of CBD are relief from pain and anxiety. Delta 8 can also provide some degree of pain alleviation and relief from anxiety. The precise effects of both Delta 8 and CBD depend on the quality of the products, the form of consumption, and the concentration of the two compounds.

The source of both CBD and Delta 8 is the same but these are two different compounds with distinct chemical properties, and hence effects on people.
